We had a big weekend chock full of action here at the Whitaker House. A lot of things going down, but nothing overly noteworthy. Since it is getting rather late, I expect this will end up being a rather short post insofar as my rambling prose is concerned. However, I didn’t have to rely on others to utilize my camera this weekend since I was around with them instead of at work, so I was able to grab a bunch of new pictures and a couple videos as well. I think I’ll start with perhaps my favorite one…

Emi Smiles. Ish.

Emi tends to smile only when she is asleep. It’s as if her Dreamland is filled with milk-laden nipples and a sea of clean diapers. Then she wakes up and remembers the world exists. There goes the smile. I’m told it’s quite common that the smiles don’t start until they’re a couple of weeks old, which makes me feel a little bit better. She has started to show flashes of smiles during her waking hours though, and I managed to get this picture off before it disappeared completely. It’s definitely one of my favorites.

So, to give a general overview of our weekend, Saturday saw Emi go with the Huggins Women to Dogo park for a little bit in the late afternoon, after which I met them at Ladki, which is one of the best Indian Restaurants I’ve ever been to. Emi got a little fussy toward the end of the meal, but a quick walk through the downtown Matsuyama area, followed by a stop at Baskin Robbins and the walk home seemed to calm her down straight away. It was a big, eventful day for her, so she was pretty tired when we got in. This, of course, didn’t stop her from eating a couple more times before the sun came up, mind you. That would just be crazy talk.

Sunday saw an even bigger adventure for Emi-chan, as the five of us all went to Emifuru, which is the big mall complex across the city. We walked to the bus station, took the bus to the train station, and then took the train to Koizumi station where the stores are. We hit the Aka-chan (baby) store and got diapers and soap for Lowercase Emi. Then we hit the main mall for some shopping and food consumption, after which we stopped by Nitori to pick up some blankets and cushions before finally taking the train back to Matsuyama City station.

Here, we had to split up. Sara and her mom took Emi home in a taxi with all of the stuff we had bought because she was getting fussy. However, all of us couldn’t fit into the cab, so Siobhan and I walked home. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but we both felt like we were going to die by the time we made it to Sugi Flat. I figured I would feel like hell with all the injuries and such, but it made me feel a little bit less decrepit that she wasn’t much better off.

Anyway, those are the salient details of how things went down this weekend. Now, I will let the images and videos speak for themselves. Mostly.

This first series of 4 pictures makes me giggle when I look at them. Her expressions seem to tell a story as you from one picture to the next.

Hey!!!.
Hey… That’s not a nipple!

Seriously.
Seriously guys, I know that’s not a nipple!

Why?
Um… Why is your finger still in my mouth?

Ummm...
Ok, now it’s getting creepy…

And now, a video…

Personally, I love that pacifier. It’s so big for her little head yet, and the way it covers her whole lower face reminds me a little bit of Hannibal Lecter’s mask. What, you don’t see it? How about now?

Hello, Clarice.
“I like my breast milk flavored with fava beans and a nice Chianti…”

Awesome. Anyway, you see that robe Emi’s wearing? That was one of the sets of clothes that I received from one of the women that works in the administrative office at the GRC. It was really nice of her to give us these clothes, and I think Emi looks so cute in this one in particular.

Ummm...

She looks so happy in that picture that it has managed to barrel its way into my top favorite Emi Pix of all time. Well, not that she has to try that hard to keep that list expanding. As always, she spent the weekend increasing her formidable portfolio of facial expressions…

Psycho Shower Scene.
“Dun Dun Dun!!!!”

Hammer Time.
“Stop… Hammer Time!”

Ewww...
“Oh God… Who did that?”

Innocence.
“It wasn’t me!”

Calling Bruce Wayne.
“Hello, Commissioner? We have a situation. Get me… Batman!”

Black people at a comedy club.
“Oh no he di-int!!!”

Tap out.
“Check, please.”

Hangover.
“I did WHAT last night?!”

Migraine.
“Ugh, you’re giving me a migraine.”

Yum.
“Tastes like chicken! Wait. How would I know that?”

House of Pain.
“I came to get down. I came to get down. So get out ya seat and jump around.”

Minty.
“Does my breath smell bad?”

Tell me you didn't just say that...
“What did you just say to me?”

Ok, hang on a second. Emi just got a text message.
ORLY.
“O RLY??!>!!??@!11″

Texting Emi.
“Who’s it from? What’s it say? I can’t read. I’m a baby, remember?”

Where you at?
“Ok, lemme hit ‘em back. **chirp** Yo, where you at?”

Alright, alright. That’s about enough random fun with pictures for one night. I increased the number of pictures posted on this entire site by 33% just in this one post. I will switch back to video before I go to wrap things up here, just for another quick fix of Emi-chan.

And with that, I believe it’s time to call it a night so I can get to work fairly early tomorrow. Tonight is Emi’s first night sleeping in the crib, and I couldn’t be prouder of my little girl. She’s been in there for quite some time now without fussing.

Emi's crib.    Emi's crib.

Is it strange that I feel like she’s growing up so fast? She’s not even two weeks old yet!

I have a feeling it’s going to be a long twenty-some years…
