Alright, just a quick post here to show my pride. It turns out my little girl seems to be following in the footsteps of her old man. Emiko is all about the Metal! Some of you might be saying to yourselves right now that it’s too soon for Emi to show any real preference for music. Some of you might be wondering what proof I might have to make such a claim. Some of you probably think I’m full of it anyway, but will continue reading because you’re curious whether or not there is some small grain of proof at the center of these claims.
You people in that third group make me sad all day.
Anyway, I state that my little Emi-chan is Metal for these reasons:
1) As I have mentioned before, she loves it when Daddy sings to her, but prefers the following bands:
a) Ugly Kid Joe
b) Dream Theater
c) Disturbed
d) Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (not Metal, but totally awesome)
e) Savatage
f) Ayreon
2) Emi vehemently dislikes it when Daddy sings songs by the following artists:
a) Frank Sinatra
b) David Hasselhoff (brings a tear to my eye…)
c) Nickelback (Thank God!)
3) Today, while Emi was fussy, we tried playing some music to calm her down. The ambient techno music from the Animatrix soundtrack only made her more upset. Barenaked Ladies worked for a little bit, but then it was back to screamsville. Finally, I put on Dream Theater’s “Scenes From A Memory” album, and once the guitars hit, she calmed right down.
4) I submit for your approval the following photograph:

That’s right. Check out her right hand. Emi’s throwing up THE HORNS! That is a gallon of extra-spicy chipotle barbecue-style awesomesauce right there.
Fear not, citizens; the child spoken of in the prophecy has come. She has risen from the depths of legend to restore the balance between Good and Awesome. Hold your banners high and raise the fist of the Metal child!
The defense rests.

Valerie Renee says:
While I am saddened that she doesn’t like Sinatra, I am pleased to hear that she dislikes the Hoff and Nickelback. :) I knew your baby would be metal, just like you. And there’s been times when I’ve put on Dream Theater when I’ve wanted to relax, so she’s like her auntie too!
